Everyone experiences anger: traffic jams, playground bullies, unreasonable taxation, unsympathetic friends or relatives, etc. When you have a low tolerance for frustration, you will be easily angered. An amygdala hijack occurs when the feeling of anger escalates into an aggressive behavior. It’s natural to react defensively when you’re criticized. But, don’t jump to conclusions when you are angry. You need to listen carefully before reacting. Then, take time to think carefully and reply. Keeping your cool can help the situation from becoming a disastrous one. Also, mindfulness can help you slow your emotional responses. Mindfulness meditation will also help you stop an amygdala hijack so you can control your emotional reactions!
